Congratulations to our very own PGA Pro Ryan Fitzgerald who won the Sussex Open Championship played at Goodwood Golf Club this August.
The Sussex Open trophy dates back to 1946 and is one of the most prestigious events in Sussex region.
Day 1 saw Ryan shoot a -1 71, which included 2 birdies and an eagle on the par 4 4th hole. A scrappy back 9 after a good front left Ryan 2 shots behind with a round to go.
The final round saw Ryan off to a quick start making 5 birdies in the first 7 holes taking him to -6 for the event. Ryan made a bogey on the par 3 8th, but fired back with a birdie on the 10th. A lost ball on 13 set his round back, but Ryan followed up with a run of pars and one final birdie on 16 to shoot -4. The day 2 score of 68 with round 1 score of 71 left Ryan with a total of -5, which was enough to win by 1 shot.
Ryan said “It’s great to get my name on a trophy like this, I have played in this event ever since I was an amateur so to win its finally as a pro is brilliant. I’m really pleased with how I have performed over the last few days. I will be making the most of my last few events of the season as Hayley and I are looking forward to welcoming our first baby in September, ”
