A pleasantly dry autumn morning greeted 24 players for this year’s Poppy Challenge. The cool air carried a sense of excitement as players gathered, with golden leaves scattered across the fairways and friendly banter echoing around the clubhouse for the annual Remembrance Sunday competition.

The format this year was 4BBB. This format allows each pair to play their best ball on each hole, with Stableford points awarded based on performance. The first team teed off at 10am and although the course was damp underfoot it offered some good parring opportunities.

At 11am hush descended across the course for a 2 minute silence to remember all those who fought so valiantly during the war.

All the scores were quite close, 3rd place on 18 points were Keith and Jane Chatfield (on countback from Iain Mayer and Shaun Malins). 2nd place with 19 points were Chris Smith and Chris Hallett. In 1st place with a fantastic 21 points were Bob and Kate Miles, very well done to you both.

The day finished with several golfers staying on for a delicious Sunday lunch.
