David and his first Gents group have now returned from their February Algarve tournament.
The weather was a good and the courses in fabulous condition and the gents took full advantage of this with some great golf being played over the week.
In the Wally Stevenson sponsored team event there were some exhilarating matches with David’s grey team finally managing to overcome Paul Smyth’s Navy’s by the score of 8 1/2 – 6 1/2
The individual Paul Smyth sponsored trophy was won by a newcomer to the overseas group in Chris Gilbert, winning with a fabulous 74 points, with Pete Cheesmur and David Edwards in joint Second with 70 and Paul Smyth and Keith Chatfield joint third on 67.
Paul Smyth and Chris Gilbert were dominant in winning the Graham Sherlock sponsored pairs event with an incredible 141 points.
Pete Cheesmur and Keith Chatfield were runners up on 133.
The Ian Greg trophy for best score of the week was shared by Chris Gilbert and Hicks with cracking scores of 40 points around Quinta South and Pinhal respectively.
The prize giving was held at the superb Quinta Laranjal course and David thanked all the gentleman for all of their enthusiasm and sportsmanship that made the trip such a success.
He thanked Andrew Fairbank (Treasurer) Ian Hicks (Transport) and Graham Sherlock (admin) for all of their hard work and handed out gifts. Andrew Fairbank stood up and thanked David for all of his work in organising such and enjoyable trip and said that the group were already excited for 2024.
