The clubhouse was buzzing with excitement for this year’s Kangaroo Cup, a fun fundraising event in aid of Sussex Kangaroos. Everyone arrived early to buy mulligans and sand bombs and take part in games including Guess the Balls in the Box, the Telephone Number Game and Crack the Secret Code. All the activities raised money for Sussex Kangaroos, which does tremendous work providing respite for families of children with disabilities. Many thanks to Emma from Sussex Kangaroos, who gave everyone an insight into the charity’s invaluable work.
After a day of torrential rain, the start of the Kangaroo Cup was delayed by 15 minutes in the hope that the sun would shine—and shine it did! That was all it took to put smiles on the faces of the 48 participants as they set off for the shotgun start and nine holes of golfing fun. The competition was played in teams of four, with three of the four scores counting. There were also individual prizes for Nearest the Line on the 6th hole and Nearest the Pin on the 8th.
The wet conditions did not deter good scoring, with several teams finishing on handicap or thereabouts. Merriment could be heard across the course as players took advantage of their mulligans and sand bombs, along with a few cries of, “Oh no, I should have used my mulligan!”
After an enjoyable round, everyone headed back to the clubhouse for drinks and a delicious hog roast served with a selection of salads. Once everyone had eaten, Seniors’ Captain Mike Robertson and Lady Captain Karen Lewis announced the prize winners.

· 3rd place – 54 points: Elaine Violaris, Tas Violaris, Angela Smith and Louisa Rydon
· Nearest the Line: Karen Lloyd and Paul Smyth
· Nearest the Pin: Joe Docherty
It was a fabulous event, raising over £1,200 for the charity. Special thanks go to Mike, Karen and Bruce who worked so hard to make it such a fun and enjoyable occasion; to Josh and his fabulous team, who work tirelessly to keep the course in great condition, whatever the weather; and to Niki, Emma and the team for looking after everyone in the clubhouse
