The excitement had been building for a few weeks as the players prepared themselves for the Cuckfield Ryder Cup challenge. Louisa – Captain Europe and Shaun – Captain USA led from the front with Louisa in her genuine Ryder Cup jacket and Shaun in full American top hat and tails! Their teams arrived in blue/yellow and red/white/blue respectively with some great fun shirts and accessories. Laughter filled the air as players queued at the tattoo parlour, eager to show off their team spirit with brightly coloured flags painted on their cheeks!
The competition featured a mix of formats: 41 players participated in 8 games of Foursomes, 6 games of Greensomes, and 12 games of Singles, all played over 18 holes on a course that was in great condition. After everyone had completed the first nine holes there was 1 point separating the teams, players went back out determined to get the result for their team.
As the results started to come in the excitement was building, neck and neck, with only four results left to be announced, both teams anxiously watched the scoreboard, knowing victory was within reach for either side but Europe dug deep and a late flourish saw them triumphant with a 15 – 11 win!
The event culminated in 30 players staying on for a delicious roast lunch. A great day had by all.
