Cuckfield British Open Delivers Excellent Scoring in Summer Conditions
A field of 39 players enjoyed a successful and competitive Cuckfield British Open, played in cool, sunny and breezy conditions. Competitors played an individual Medal round, with teams combining their three nett scores with that of one of the top 13 professionals from Saturday’s Round 3 at The Open. The team with the lowest combined nett score claimed victory.
Following a prolonged dry spell, the course was firm and fast, rewarding good shot-making with plenty of run and contributing to impressive scoring throughout the field.
A great atmosphere among all the players and the competitive spirit prevailed as everyone tried to get their name on the individual challenges. The results for these were as follows:
Longest Drive on 2 Ladies: Karen Lewis; Men: Joseph Grant
Nearest the Pin in 2 on 12 Ladies: Sarah Walton; Men: Matt Wadey
The results of the main competition were as follows:
1st Place – 270 Nett Mike Foden, Jonathan Reynolds, Roger Newman and Ryan Fox
2nd Place – 280 Nett Gill Evaroa, Annie Rees, Janet Hale and Ludvig Åberg
3rd Place – 281 Nett Lynne Adams, Karen Lloyd, Paul Hastings and Sam Burns
Following the golf, many players stayed to enjoy a barbecue lunch, rounding off a day marked by excellent competition and a strong club atmosphere.
Thanks were extended to Niki and her team for their hospitality and prize presentation, as well as to Josh and the greenkeeping team for maintaining the course in such playable condition despite challenging drought conditions.
The event was widely enjoyed by all who took part and once again proved to be a highlight of the club calendar.
