David and the Cuckfield ladies Division players recently returned from their Winter tour to Marbella, Spain.
They were staying at the very nice Rio Real Golf and country club in Marbella and would be playing both Rio Real and Santa Clara courses throughout the week. The event was as ever based on the popular Solheim Cup style format of team matches and also individual and pairs events.
The weather was breezy from time to time but on the whole the ladies got to play in some warm weather but somewhat tough courses in the sunshine and much needed dry conditions!
It was a somewhat eventful week with a few adjustments and changes required after poor Lesley took an unfortunate fall at the hotel and had to sadly head home early, a real loss to all.
There were some cracking matches throughout the week at both Venues but in the end the Salmon team Captained by Karen Lewis came out on top in the Elaine Violaris team event with a winning score of 9-7
In the Hazel Smyth individual trophy Angela Smith took the title with some very solid golf, with a total score of 50 points over two tough days enough to take the win by just one point from Elaine Violaris in second on 49 and Clare Parkinson in Third on 47.
In the Lesley Horne pairs trophy Angela Smith and Vice captain Hayley Brown reigned supreme with a combined total of 92 points.Runners up were the pairing of Louisa Rydon and Paula Laird on 85.
The Angela Smith Salver for the best round of the week was shared by both Elaine Violaris and Paula Laird after sparkling rounds of 28 points each.
At the prize giving David thanked Rio Real for hosting such a great week. The helpers Angie, (cards, scoring) Hayley, (transport ) Elaine ,Clare banking. He also had a mention for the Smyth family for their continued investment and support of the club and tours and of course to the ladies for all of their efforts and enthusiasm in making the week such a success.
Captain Karen Lewis finished by thanking David for all of his hard work in organising the trip and gave him a lovely gift from everyone.
On an incredibly sad note on the week of our return we lost our beloved Hazel Smyth. So sudden and an unimaginable loss to all who knew her, she will be so greatly missed. David and the ladies would like to dedicate the Tour to Hazel and as she would have wanted we shall continue to play for her trophy and think of her with the fondest of memories on future tours.
R.I.P Hazel.
