The annual Putt Out and Drive In marks the ceremonial transition between outgoing and incoming club captains, combining friendly competition with celebration. We were delighted this much-anticipated annual event went ahead as planned not only thanks to a decent break in the weather but to Josh and the Greenkeepers team for all the hard work they did on course drainage – it’s made a big difference!
A great turnout from members who came to watch the Captains perform. Our retiring Captains putted out, highly amusing how the ball jumped and swerved but it didn’t deter them from nearing the hole. Karen, Bruce and Mike then took turns to Drive In… they hit the balls so hard there were streamers and explosions on impact – a very impressive start to their year.
With spirits high after the ceremonial drives, members gathered for the next highlight of the day—the Shotgun start for the 9 hole Stableford competition, teams of 3 with all 3 scores counting on the Blue tees. There was an individual men and ladies nearest the pin competition with Sharon O’Shea taking it for the ladies and Peter Ewen for the men, well done to you both.
The winners of the 9 hole competition were as follows:
1st place – Neil Hodgson, Dale Wilkins, Ged Butcher with an amazing 58 points
2nd place – Kate Miles, Bob Miles, Ron Waggett with 53 points
3rd place – Angie Smith, Andrew Watson, David Blackman with 52 points
Very well done to you all for some very good scoring.
It was wonderful to see members supporting each other both on and off the course, reflecting the strong camaraderie that defines our club. A number of players stayed on for a delicious Sunday lunch which rounded off a perfect day.
Thanks to Niki, Emma and the team for looking after us so well.
