Captains Charity Day

On Saturday, the 22nd October Cuckfield Golf Centre held its annual Captains Charity Day. What a fantastic day it was, and what an incredible amount of money raised.

The chosen charities this year were:

Chestnut Tree House ( and

Sussex Homeless Support (

At 9.00am the Clubhouse was buzzing with members keen to buy their mulligans for the Cross Country Golf as well as raffle tickets, Pro Sweepstake, delicious Homemade Cakes and much more.

At 9.45 the golfers headed out for a shotgun start at 10.00am. The course layout was completely different, playing 3rd tee to 7th green, 7th tee to 2nd green, 5th tee to 3rd green and other unusual combinations. Thank you to Josh and Roger for laying the course out. Great fun was had by all and the triumphant winners on the day were Phil Selley, Mick Taylor, Steve Manser and David Billinge. Men’s Captain Roger Scott presented them with their winning medals. Kate Miles, Ladies Captain presented Lesley Horne and Matt Amos for Nearest the Pin.

The weather held up well and the players relaxed after their endeavours with a delicious lasagne and garlic bread lunch building their energy back up for the big auction.

Iain Mayer, our Auctioneer on the day did an exceptional job, combining humour with an urgency to donate funds for our charities in exchange for some incredibly attractive prizes including golf vouchers, expensive perfumes, tickets to a Rod Stewart concert, restaurant gift coupons, framed pictures and more. There was the usual banter and laughter as the bids went backwards and upwards and, at the end of the day the amount we raised for our charities exceeded £6,000 with additional donations still coming in!

It was a very enjoyable day, and we thank everyone who helped with the organisation, donating and purchasing prizes and giving their time to ensure a successful event.
