This competition is always one of the favourites of the year and certainly raises the question of why we trundle around the course with 14 clubs when the scores are just as good — if not better — with only three clubs and a putter!
Fifty-two participants paired up for 18 holes of Stableford off full handicap. There was plenty of discussion in the car park about which three clubs to select — and it is almost guaranteed that the one you really want is the one left in the car!
The sun was shining and the course was generous, with plenty of bounce and roll contributing to some excellent scoring opportunities.
Individual prizes were awarded for longest drive on the 2nd hole and nearest the pin in two on the 12th. The winners were:
Longest Drive – Men, Iain Mayer; Ladies, Bea Tobin
Nearest the Pin in 2 – Men, Mike Bird; Ladies, Clare Parkinson
The main competition awarded prizes down to 4th place, as follows:
1st – Chris Smith & Chris Hallett 83 points
2nd – Glynnis Sayer & Barbara Halliwell 78 points
3rd – Pam Grinyer & Annie Rees 74 points
4th – Keith & Jane Chatfield 71 points
Thank you to Niki for presenting the prizes, and to Justine and the team for looking after everyone so well. Thanks also to Josh and the greenkeeping team for all their hard work in keeping the course in such good condition during very challenging hot and dry weather.
