As the sun started to shine on the dew kissed fairways the first of 48 players started the annual favourite 3 Club + Putter challenge. The 18 holes are split into 2 games, the first a pairs game with Stableford scoring and both scores to count for the front 9, then the pairs team up into 4 for a Texas Scramble on the back 9.
There was excellent scoring for both competitions making everyone wonder why we normally take 14 clubs! The course was in good condition and gave lots of bounce and roll – although not always in the right direction!
The winning pairs were in 2nd place Kate Miles and Iain Mayer with 39 points (coming 2nd on countback from Chris Hallett and Chris Smith) and in 1st place were Bruce Somerville and Jonathon Reynolds with 42 points, great scores – well done.
The Texas Scramble was decided by the best nett team score, with three teams tied at 27 points; the countback determined the winners. In 3rd place were Kate Miles, Iain Mayer, Gerry and Wendy Waite. In 2nd place Bruce Somerville, Jonathan Reynolds, Mike Foden and Jason Lea. 1st place was awarded to Steve Manser, Glynnis Sayer, Alison Smith and Neil Sutherland.
Wendy Waite, vice President presented the prizes and awarded the Shield. A big thank you to Josh and his team for keeping the course in good shape and to Niki and the team for the lovely lunches enjoyed after the golf.
