On this hole care from the tee will be needed as the fairway will take any rolling ball to the left side leaving a tricky second shot over trees to a very much uphill green. Avoiding the love heart bunker is crucial in order to reach the green in regulation. When playing a shot onto the first green its always preferable to aim slightly right allowing the curvature of the hill to push the golf ball onto the green.

With hole number 2, remember to focus on a small part of the fairway when teeing off.
A larger landing area can cause players to be inaccurate. Playing down the hill allows for a more than satisfying roll out, watch as your ball skips and bounds down the fairway. However this slope can cause problems when trying to judge distance for your second shot. Precision is more crucial than ever when it comes to the second green at Cuckfield
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 4 | 381 Yards
One of the most unique par 4s in the county the 3rd hole is high risk high reward. Executing a direct shot over the trees can leave plenty of birdie chances and if your lucky the big birds, beware though as any miss hit when going directly for it can be detrimental to the scorecard. Sensible golfers can play to the left of the trees and still leave a comfortable chip onto the green.
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 4 | 224 Yards
If you asked a golfer to draw a layout for a short par 4 this is what they would draw. Dead straight tee shot, two short greenside bunkers protecting the green and very little fairway trouble. Aiming to the left is preferable as fairway opens up significantly and a wayward right shot is not really an option as balls will be devoured by the bush running along the side.
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 4 | 245 Yards
Number 5 is arguably the most handsome hole off of the tee (especially with an evening sunset backdrop), it is also the hole with potentially the most trouble with two fairway bunkers and a short greenside bunker a good tee shot has rarely been more important. The shot onto the green can be well rewarded with an upslope so the ball should have no trouble stopping, meaning pin hunting can be available, however try your luck too much and prepared to be punished as going long can leave a truly difficult chip back on.
• Men’s & Ladies Par 4 | 283 Yards
• Competition Par 4 | 364 Yards
Central marker post indicates your line and is helpful due to the sixth being a blind tee shot. Beware of the pot bunker to the right hand side of the green on this hole as it is hiding and any shot out of it is not for the faint hearted. With the green sloping away from the fairway sticking a green in regulation on this hole should be rightly rewarded as it is not as easy as it first seems.
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 4 | 330 Yards
This is the most demanding carry on the course hitting a ball too short off the tee here is asking for nothing but a splash . Be careful to judge your next shot well with plenty of club due to the uphill nature of this hole. Long is always preferable to short when trying to hit the green on the 7th as the small steep hill behind the green acts a more than competent backboard.
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 4 | 306 Yards
The 8th hole at Cuckfield is never a comfortable par. This being the highest tee to green proportion means the wind plays havoc with the golf balls. Furthermore the sloping from left to right means any chance of a close tee shot needs the balls first bounce to be to the left of the flag to allow for the significant bounces and roll right. There are no gimmies on hole 8 as anyone can miss from anywhere on this unforgiving green.
• Men’s, Ladies & Competition | Par 3 | 162 Yards
The ninth at Cuckfield is not a slow wind down hole in the slightest. A punishing last hole with a killer final hill, a well hit drive will give you a much flatter lie and mush easier second shot. The two fairway bunkers to the right and left mean a straight tee shot is pivotal in order to reach the green in two. The 9th green has bumps and rises all around it so a close chip into the green on the ninth is rarely a given.
